What is Cub Scouts?

Cub Scouts is a section within the Scouting movement designed for young people aged 8 to 10 1/2 years old. It's a program focused on fun, adventure, and skill development, fostering friendships, curiosity about the world, and a sense of community. Cubs are led by adult leaders, often nicknamed "Akela" after the wise leader of the wolf pack in Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. Within their "Pack" (a group of Cubs), they are also part of a smaller group called a "Six," which is a group of Cubs led by a Sixer and Seconder. 


Age: 8 to 10 1/2 years old. 


Focus: Adventure, fun, skill development, friendship, and

community involvement. 


Structure: Part of the broader Scout movement, including Beavers (6-8), Scouts (10 1/2-14), Explorers (14-18), and Scout Network (18-25). 


Leadership: Led by adult leaders, often called "Akela". 


Units: Cubs are organized into "Packs" and smaller "Sixes". 


Promise: Cubs make a promise to do their best to make a positive contribution to society and stick to their values.
